The average working person in America today had roughly $955.00 saved for retirement. Hold this thought in your mind whenever you hear stock market reports, or media stating something about IRAs or social security. Most people in this country, land of the “free” home of the “brave”, will be poor or destitute by old age- if they reach it, because healthcare is certainly not free, and being brave will not get you through terminal cancer. I’m sorry folks, but if we don’t wake up soon, the corporate greed and foolish complacency of our government will kill us all. I was motivated to write this post after watching a poignant discussion between Eugene Khoza, Trevor Noah, and Corey Doctrow.

There is so much rich content in this talk, and I would highly recommend listening, especially if you are feeling the frustration of technological ownership, working hard and not earning enough to survive, or concern for the monopolies forming across the board in corporate control of our world- yes, this goes well beyond the good old (actually 250 years is quite young for a nation) USA.

But Liz, how does this relate to food and your quest for slow, safe, clean, affordable food? Well, listen to these guys talk and find out- they do go into the consolidation of our food chains and the devastation looming. I’ve mentioned before how everything on Earth is interconnected, and this discussion really does go deep on that point, especially what happens when you consolidate basic needs through corporate greed. Granted, this is happening all over the world right now- it’s that big “cabal” conspiracy theorists are always ranting about, but you can watch it in real time, just look at media right now and count how many public news programs you have access to, much less trust. If the news is not covering food consolidation, it’s probably because media is doing the same thing, so look forward to having your streaming services choose what you watch, and while you stare at Plato’s cave, your hard fought for rights as a “free” citizen slip away. But why worry when you can sit and be entertained? “Obey” is making a come back in society, and safe does not mean free folks- not at all.
