Red Tail and Raven

Special visitors are hanging out around Leafhopper Farm this week. It’s all thanks to some pig scraps which were placed in the back field. Red Tail Hawk flew in to join Ravens at the carrion site and it was a chow down. What I enjoy most about these two videos is how polite the species are to each other. Red Tail is obviously in charge, and shows his superior strength in tearing at the meat and standing proudly over the choice parts while raven slinks in from the sides.

In this film, you see raven cautiously move in near hawk with slow steps. The buteo watches the corvid for a moment, then they both seem to come to an agreement and continue feasting side by side. It is wonderful to have behavior of these two birds together and I look forward to more as the smells drift out through the woods.
